Haile Gebrselassie
(HIGH-leh geh-bruh-suh-LAH-see) At his own pace Gebrselassie says his training program is based on how his body
feels, so he doesn't maintain a strict mileage regimen. Instead, he runs for one hour in the morning and one hour in the evening; most reports put
his daily mileage count at 18. He reserves his speed work -- a series of 800-, 400- and 200-meter jaunts -- for the weeks leading up to competitions.

The book on Haile
Gebrselassie has a slight crook in his left arm when he runs. His coach, Dr. Wolde Kostre, says it was developed by carrying books while
running to school. Also during his childhood, Gebrselassie often was charged with chasing down on foot any of the family horses that
broke loose. So compelling is his story that he's the subject of the Disney biographical motion picture "Endurance," which chronicles his rise to prominence and Olympic glory. |

Men's 10 000m finalIn 10,000m terms
this was the night of the big fight between two of the greatest distance runners in history both of whom
were running their last major championship 10,000 metres. In the green vest from Ethiopia the defending Olympic champion and world record holder Haile Gebrselassie,
and in the red vest from Kenya the challenger and Olympic silver medallist from four years ago, the five times world cross country champion, Paul Tergat. This pre-race billing did not
disappoint and the final quickly developed into one of the all time encounters on a par, if not better than Miruts Yifter's duel with Lasse Viren in the Moscow final of 1980. More ===>at IAAF International Amateur Athletic Federation |
