Defending Olympic champion
Fatuma Roba captured Africa's first Olympic women's marathon gold medal (2:26:52) at the 1996 Games in Atlanta. When she crossed the finish line, she threw her arms in the air, then knelt and kissed the track. In 1999, she became the second woman in history to win three consecutive Boston Marathons.
