Addis Gezahegn
The First Ethiopian Women to run a Marathon was Addis Gezahegn. In 1989 without any formal training she run in the annual Abebe Bekila Marathon in Addis Abeba
Ethiopia. She was later signed up on the national squad and in 1990 she run the Rotterdam Marathon and completed the race in 2:35:04 an African Record. Addis left Ethiopia in the early 1990's and never
returned. She still runs races in Europe and has enjoyed some success. |
